As we go into August, we continue to REFRESH our souls by immersing ourselves in prayer.
In Jesus prayer for us he sets the tone for us to be refreshed:John 17:18-21 (ESV) 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
We will understand the significance of this as we go along throughout August. We will look at Praying in the Holy Spirit, Paul’s Prayer for Sanctification, and other things that are key to having our souls refreshed.
We will not only be looking at these key issues in being refreshed through prayer, but we will be practicing prayer. On Wednesday August 8th, we will begin a 40 day time of Fasting and Prayer. In this 40 days, I want to challenge you to give up something, (fasting from it for the 40 days) and while you give this up, the time you would spend doing that thing, PRAY. Some will fast a meal, or give up desert, or refrain from Facebook, or Netflix, or give up their games during this time. It does not matter what it is you fast, what matters is you take the time to listen to, and speak with God about the things that you need to speak to Him about: a habit, an addiction, a non-Christian friend God wants you to tell about Jesus, a situation over which you have no control, a commitment God wants you to make, or maybe even a life changing decision God is calling you to make.
Take the next 40 days to fast and pray, REFRESH your soul in the presence of Jesus. I know one thing for sure that WILL take place if you do: your life will be different because you have spent time in intimate communication with The Maker of the universe. He is longing to meet with you in this time over the next 40 days. Join with me here at the church on Wednesday August 8th as we begin this time together with our first Family night meal together again followed by corporate prayer together.
